The Independent Workers Association was organized by Eugene Nelson in the Rio Grande Valley in 1966. A group of Tarrant County citizens organized in 1969 to support and aid the farm workers in California and Texas who were on strike by boycotting grapes and lettuce grown in these areas. The group called itself the Tarrant County Grape Boycott Committee.
